B. Michael: Backstage Beauty

So today was my first stab at assisting backstage during fashion week for B. Michael. The key makeup artist was Anthea King. (I should have asked to take her picture.) She designed a really sexy bronzed look using MARK. by AVON products. We ended up using a mixture of foundations (Bobbi Brown, Giorgio Armani and Shu Uemura.) This is a pic of Anthea putting together the final look.

MAC Pro: Portfolio Review

So MAC pro NY Showroom is hosting portfolio reviews for makeup artists with some of NY's TOP artists reps January 29th (today, Tuesday)-January 31st (Thursday). Basically you had to come down with a professional portfolio (no self pics, no pics of friends or family, etc) and with an open mind & questions. I noticed ALOT of makeup artists that already work for MAC there...it was a bit intimidating; because I don't work for anybody, I don't get to do any shows!** These guys all have the support of MAC, resume's and MAJUH show experience!!!
Well my meetings went REALLY REALLY well. They love the same photogs in my book that I love working with!! I was given was some GREAT feedback on what to do next (get a postcard/comp card, do more creative stuff, do more ethnic skin.) They liked my skin work, LOVED my mens grooming, and were happy that I don't mind doing light hair, on request.

I'm supposed to get in touch with one of the artist reps later today!
Fingers crossed please!

**Okay, this is no joke!!! While I was writing this post, I got a call on my cell from the first artist rep I met this morning!! Someone from their office called me, asked me if I was available to assist on a show this Thursday for Fashion Week!! I'm plotzing!! I was like of course!!! That meant canceling the other 2 appointment reviews I had scheduled for Thursday, but I mean this is an opportunity to do a show!!! THANK YOU BEAUTY & FASHION GODS!!

Shannon at Marilyn Models

Today was another great shoot at Neo (studio 3) with the talented photographer Isaac Bearman. The props were the coolest I've worked with so far; GIANT balloons, cellophane papers and image projections!!!! Very editorial feeling!!! I can't wait to see the images.

MAC Pro Master Class with Frances Hathaway

(l-r) Frances Hathaway, model/Katie, model/Milla

So Monday night was the master class at MAC Pro with makeup legend and self- admitted MAC girl Frances Hathaway. I was always wondering who does the makeup for those brilliant TARGET ads, helleaux...it's Frances!!

I have to say I left feeling very inspired and like I'm in the right place mentally. It was great to meet a pro that has the mind set, a great work ethic and shared her secrets to what it's really all about. I'm sure her passion rings through on set that's why she's repeatedly 'asked back to the party' by her client. She's inspired me to find more photographers, reach out to more people, and keep pushing on.

(Now I just have to remember that I have to open the flash when I take pics on my new camera.)

Ice Ice Baby!!

Had a great shoot today at Okamoto Studio. They do AMAZING, GENIUS, ice sculpture. I can't mention what project they were working on when we arrived, but I will say it's going to cause major penis envy at the event it's for. The ice sculpture we used was an ice dress that Bjork used for her concert! The model (Hana Mayeda @ Marilyn's) was really cool about dealing with the ice! It was hard doing makeup in flourescent lighting, but it still looks good, no?!

The Switch

So the girl from Red wasn't available. That's fine, I prefer working with Elite girls anyways!

Model of the day

Megg Morales at Red Models.
I don't know if I can say what it's for.
I'll see if I can post more pics from the shoot later.

The NEW MAC pro NY - EXCLUSIVE!!

So MAC pro NY Showroom official grand opening is today. Yes, that's the new and official title. Learn it!! I have to say, I am VERY VERY Impressed. There's lots of room (7,000 sq. ft of space) to walk around in and play with make up and browse. There are so many new amenities and services, MAC pro NY Showroom has the artiste in mind for this new incarnation.

I was literally an officially the first 'customer' today!! I inspired them to get on the phone and start calling members to come over.

There first thing yo see when you walk in is that the walls are covered with apothecary jars filled with colored pigments. If that doesn't get you into color, nothing will!!

Yes, there is a photo studio. They still haven't worked out the booking situation. Their still waiting for the seamless papers (black, white, grey) to be changed, the surgical shoes to arrive (NO SHOES on the cyc), and for the cameras and umbrellas to arrive.

There is a makeup station in the studio so you don't have to use the stations available in the selling, testing floor. The large mirror you see is also ideal for HD, it has some high-tech color behind it!

What's most impressive is the library!!!

Art books, photography books, designer/interior books, color theory books, makeup books, and industry resource books.

You can use the mac computers, full access. You can do a beauty test that day, download to your website all in one shot!

The MAC pro NY Showroom is located at 7 west 22nd Street off 5th Avenue, 2nd floor!! Tell Darian that Miss Jeffrey said hi!
